Our BIG Bookstore Pop-Up

Our dream since moving to Rockaway has always been to open a bookstore bar and for 6 weeks this summer it came true. We were given the chance by a local business owner to use his retail space and test our concept. We had almost 1000 books on display and for sale. Local authors, musicians, artists, and speakers came out to entertain and engage the community in the space. We partnered with local business to provide wine, beer, and baked goods. We even got to be part of a nation wide campaign to stop the atrocities at the border with Bookstores Against Borders. For a moment we got to see our dream come to life and it was AMAZING!

It also gave us enough hope that the community could support and sustain a business like this that we went forward with an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a permanent bookstore location in Rockaway Beach. The campaign goes on as we start breaking down the store this week.

We are heartened and encourage by all the support we have received both in person and online. We are bursting with gratitude. First, we would like to thank all who came to the store and enjoyed a beverage, bought a book, or just browsed and chatted with us. It was wonderful getting to know more of our community members. Second, thank you to all who came out and performed in the space; Jill Eisenstadt, Kyle Lukoff, Abike Farley, Eric Draven, Patsy, John Simonelli, and Jillian Steinhauer . Third, thank you to RAA Press for allowing us to host a gallery show of your beautiful work. Thank you to Fat Cardinal Provisons and Rockaway Beach Bakery for letting us sell your amazing baked goods on Sunday mornings! To The Wave and The Rockaway Times, we have eternal gratitude at the coverage and support you have given us through our journey but especially over the last two months. Finally thank you to our family, friends, and everyone who has donated to our Indiegogo campaign. Your belief in our dream has kept us going and inspired us to make this a reality.

XO
